Short answer: To register and verify an Amazon seller account, Amazon asks for a government-issued ID, proof of address dated within the last 180 days (such as a bank or credit card statement), bank account details, an internationally chargeable credit card, business and tax information, a phone number and an email address. You then confirm your identity with a photo of your face and ID or a video call.
This checklist is based on Amazon's own registration guide, checked in October 2026. It covers each document, how to prepare it, what Walmart Marketplace asks for and the mistakes that most often delay verification. It is about setting up your own account legitimately; it does not cover buying, selling or transferring accounts.
The Amazon seller verification documents checklist
Amazon's registration guide lists what to have ready before you start:
| Item | What Amazon asks for | How to prepare it |
|---|---|---|
| Government-issued ID | A government-issued ID, such as a passport | Valid, unexpired; the name must match everything else you submit |
| Proof of address | "Proof of residential business address dated from the last 180 days, like a bank or credit card statement" | A recent statement showing your name and the same address you enter |
| Bank account | Bank account and routing number | An account held in your name or your business's name |
| Credit card | An "internationally chargeable credit card" | Must be able to pay charges from outside your country |
| Business information | Business license or registration | Your formation documents if you register as a business |
| Tax information | Tax details for Amazon's tax interview | Your tax ID and the correct IRS W-form for your status |
| Contact details | Email address and phone number | A phone you can receive verification codes on |
Amazon also gives a clear quality rule: "When uploading documents, use high-quality color scans or photos that show all four corners and have legible text."
Each document, explained
Government-issued ID
Use a valid passport or other government-issued photo ID. Amazon's guide gives a passport as an example, and for founders registering from outside the US it is often the simplest choice. Whatever you use, the name on it becomes the reference point for every other document.
Check before uploading: the ID is not expired, all four corners are visible, there is no glare over the name or photo, and the name matches the one you type into the form exactly.
Proof of address
Amazon asks for proof of residential business address dated within the last 180 days and gives a bank or credit card statement as an example. The statement should show your name and the same address you enter in the registration form.
Common problem: the address on the statement uses a different format, an old address or a family member's name. Fix this with your bank before you apply rather than explaining it later.
Bank account
Amazon pays your sales proceeds into a deposit account. Its registration guide says the account can be held in "your name as the primary contact" or "the name of your business." It also answers whether you need a US bank account: "No. You can use the Amazon Currency Converter to receive your sales proceeds in a bank account outside the US." Supported countries and currencies are listed in Seller Central, so check yours before you apply. If you need help connecting a deposit account, see our payout method setup service.
Credit card
Amazon asks for an internationally chargeable credit card and accepts American Express, Diners Club, Discover, JCB, MasterCard and Visa. Its guide notes the card "does not need to be under your name or the name of your business." Even so, many sellers prefer a card in their own name so the records stay consistent.
Business information and registration
If you register as a business, Amazon asks you to "enter the address that appears on your business license." For a US LLC, that means your Articles of Organization and the details on your EIN confirmation letter. If you have not formed your entity yet, our step-by-step guide on how to form a US LLC from Pakistan covers the order of steps.
Tax information
Amazon collects tax information during registration, in a step usually called the tax interview. The IRS form behind it depends on who you are:
- Form W-8BEN is for a nonresident alien individual. The IRS instructions also say that a foreign individual who is the single owner of a disregarded entity (such as many single-member LLCs) that is not claiming treaty benefits as a hybrid entity should complete Form W-8BEN with their own name and information.
- Form W-8BEN-E is for foreign entities documenting their foreign status.
- Form W-9 is for US persons.
The IRS adds that a Form W-8BEN generally stays in effect until the last day of the third calendar year after the year it is signed. Answer the interview carefully, and if you are unsure which form applies, ask a qualified tax professional. Our guide to ITIN vs EIN for non-US LLC owners explains which tax number you actually need.
This is general information, not tax or legal advice. Tax forms depend on your circumstances. Confirm your position with a qualified tax professional.
How Amazon's identity check works
After you submit your store information, Amazon prompts you to upload your government-issued ID and then complete one of two checks, according to its registration guide:
- Photo check: "Take a photo of your face and government-issued ID."
- Video call: "Join or schedule a video call with an Amazon associate. You should bring your government-issued ID and proof of residential address to the call."
Amazon says the process "usually takes three business days or less." Some applications take longer, especially when documents do not match.
For the video call:
- Have the original documents, not copies or screenshots.
- Use the same ID you uploaded.
- Join from a quiet, well-lit place with a stable connection.
- Answer questions about your business plainly. You are the account owner, so you should be the person on the call.
What Walmart Marketplace asks for
If you plan to sell on Walmart as well, prepare a separate set. Walmart's own pages list these minimum requirements:
| Walmart requirement | What it means in practice |
|---|---|
| "Business Tax ID(s) (SSN not accepted) or Business License Number" | Typically an EIN for a US LLC |
| "Supporting documents that verify your Business Name and Address" | Formation documents and business address proof |
| "History of marketplace or eCommerce success" | Evidence from other marketplaces or your own store |
| "Products that have GTIN/UPC GS1 Company Prefix Numbers" | Valid product identifiers |
| An account with Marketplace Wallet or a third-party payment provider | A way to receive payouts |
| Catalog compliance with Walmart's prohibited products policy | No restricted or prohibited items |
| Fulfillment through WFS or "another B2C US warehouse with returns capability" | A US fulfillment and returns setup |
Walmart's registration guide adds that during business verification, your entity type and tax registration must "precisely match your IRS records or government-issued documents," and that it asks for a government-issued ID for the applicant or legal representative. Whether Pakistan-based businesses can apply directly is covered in our guide on selling on Walmart from Pakistan.
For Temu, requirements depend on the program you join and change often. See our Temu seller guide for 2026.
The mismatches that slow verification down
Most delays come from details that do not line up across documents. Before you apply, compare these side by side:
| Field | Where it appears | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Legal name | ID, bank statement, LLC documents, EIN letter, application | Same spelling, same order, no missing middle names |
| Business name | Articles of Organization, EIN letter, bank account, application | Exact match, including "LLC" |
| Address | Proof of address, application, business license | Same address in the same format |
| Tax ID | EIN letter, tax interview, Walmart W-9 or W-8 details | Correct number; correct form for your status |
| Phone number | Application, two-step verification | A number you control long term |
This is the same point ECOMHUTSY makes to every seller-account client: inconsistencies are the leading cause of application delays.
